He admitted five charges of making indecent communications and one charge of sending images depicting sexual acts. Ali thought his social media chats were with girls aged as young as 12, but they turned out to be adult members of a vigilante group.
The court heard group members confronted him at his home in August and the event was streamed live on Facebook.
But in December that year he made contact with what he thought was a girl aged 13 and engaged in conversation of a sexual nature with her. Ali arranged to meet this person, but the rendezvous was called off, then the vigilantes made a second visit to his home. He had no convictions of any nature and his risk of re-offending was described as medium.
